FDDI | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
FDDI has four key components. The media access control layer (MAC) The physical layer (PHY) The physical media dependent layer (PMD) The station management layer (SMT) FDDI is a link-layer protocol which means that higher layer protocols operate independently of FDDI protocols, Applications pass packet- level data using higher-layer protocols down to the logical link control layer. In the same way that they would do over Ethernet or token rings. Because FDDI uses a different physical layer protocal than Ethernet and token ring traffic must be routed on and off FDDI ring. FDDI allows for larger packet sizes than lower speed Lan's thats why connections between FDDI and Ethernet or token ring LANS require fragmantation and reassembly of frames.
Token Ring | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A local aera network in which computers are formed in a ring,and a message called a token is passed from station to station. The token is used to avoid conflicts in transmission;a machine can only transmit messages while it holds the token. The mostcommon type of token is lEEE 802.5 standard.I will be moving my belongings in shortly. Ethernet
In the late 1970's Xerox developed a type of network cabling and signalling specifications, used for networking Local computers sharing files and printers. Although ethernet is not the fastest network process, it is the most commonly used because of ease of installation and is less expensive. |
